I was riding my horse in the rain in a birch forest biome when I came across a river. I needed to cross it, so I jumped in with my horse, expecting me to get dismounted. From there I would push my horse across. I did dismount, but the horse disappeared. I did not hear any dying sounds and my horse had only one heart missing.

We're actually already tracking this issue in MC-101247, so I resolved and linked this ticket as a duplicate.
However, that ticket has already been resolved as Fixed. The fix will arrive in the next version or is already included in the latest development version of the game.
If you haven't already, you might like to make use of the search feature in the future to see if the issue has already been reported.

have you re-loaded the world? minecraft will sometimes not teleport ridable entities when the player dismounts. re-loading should fix this
