This is a little known bug and a trick. If you place a trapdoor on your side , and that it goes down when it closes, and you stand on the side , then you operate ,then you shrink to 1 Block size because of trapdoor, and become normal when you open trapdoor or walk front or back. Sorry for Bad English and test for yourself.

We're actually already tracking this issue in MC-147612, so I resolved and linked this ticket as a duplicate.
