I was transporting villagers on land when my boat all off a sudden broke into planks and sticks.

You might of gone fast into the area and crashed because sometimes it breaks when you do that 😃

What game version are you playing? Boats have not dropped sticks and planks for quite some time now, as the boat item is what is currently dropped.
