1.14.4 to 1.15.1 the Nether keeps resetting

When we go into the nether portal to go into the nether the portal doesn't create itself in the nether. When I recreate a nether from INSIDE the nether I end up in some other part of the world.

I tried destroying my portal, moving the location and then recreating it but I seem to always go right back to the same spot in the nether and there still isn't a Nether portal to go back even after I created on IN the nether itself.

So I feel that the nether is resetting itself or not saving the progress.  For now we'll stay out of the Nether until we can get this fixed. Thanks! 🙂

Forgot to mention this is Vanilla. No mods.

Not sure if you'll need the backup file. We have two portals in the world that I know of:

-90 / 68 / 698 and -20 / 63 / 123

but no matter where we place a nether port we always get put into -5 / 71 / 20 inside the nether with no portal to go back.  And each time we get placed in these coords of the nether it's as if we just joined the Nether for the first time. I can't find any of my previous portals. Where ever I dug to place a new portal IN the nether to get back to the world all disappeared too.

Sorry for the quick ending. Gyazo didn't give me enough time but you'll get what I'm seeing. 🙂

Please attach the game logs from when this happened. You can find them in .minecraft/logs.

Hmmm not much going on in my "latest.log" around the time I go into the portal and end up in the nether.

I looked at the server logs though and I'm getting a million "Couldn't load chunk/Couldn't read chunk/Couldn't store chunk" though. Not sure if that could be causing any issues.

<--- only grabbed a few separate errors worth.  There are at least a few hundred thousand of these just in the server's latest.log file.

I'll see if I can move or add user permissions to that directory maybe. If it's possible permission issues that started causing this with the newer upgrade with the "AccessDeniedException:" lines.

Ok I think it mostly fixed it with the permissions. I don't see all of the errors that you see in the Server Logs.  One thing that's weird is if I make an Nether portal even 1000 blocks away I still end up in the one portal inside the Nether. Unless things have changed with portals.  But at least I do see my previous spots I dug in and my bridges and such again that I had in 1.14.4.   One thing I noticed if we make a portal INSIDE of the nether it brings us somewhere else in the world  sort of far away haha. So that seems to work ok.

Resolved as invalid since it was an issue with missing access permissions.

the same thing is happening to me on my server. The seed is exactly the same, but i dont have any manmade structures in the nether, like i had before(in 1.14.4). Strangely enough though, if i replace the current nether with the backup of the nether, its still exactly the same, including changes i made in 1.15.1. Can there be any further assistance with this, as i reckon its the update itself that reset the nether.

... did you use any non-vanilla software before upgrading to 1.15? Bukkit, Spigot, and other kinds of third-party software tend to save dimensions differently from the vanilla server.

yes i use spigot with some plugins, none of which i would've thought delete the dimension, should i try uninstalling them?

ive now fixed it, i had to meddle with the "DIM" world files as spigot now seems to read from the vanilla files rather then the old file location used for spigot.
