[MC-169911] Can't mend my tools apart from my sword.

Hi. The latest Minecraft's updates have been awesome and the technical improvementes have been great, however I've always been a survival player and I've always loved repairing my stuff (swords, axes, even small things like my lighter) when I go to kill hundreds of zombie pigmen but now it's impossible because the orbs of experience don't fall to the floor but instead they go directly to my sword. Consequently, I can't repair none of my stuff through this method. How can this be fixed?

Don't have your sword in either hand. XP will only repair damaged Mending stuff you are holding or wearing.

I know that, I meant to say that with the new technical improvement in the 1.15 update, the XP go directly to my sword, and now I can't use the orbs of experience that remained after I used my diamond sword on the zombie pigmen on my other tools (that have the mending enchanment obviously) anymore because the orbs that I used on my items (that I hold), are all gone to my diamond sword. In other words, if I want to repair my pickaxe (with mending enchament), for example, I have to attack with it, because the orbs of experience that used to remain after I attacked the hordes of zombie pigmen with my diamond sword are all fucking gone to the diamond sword, and unless the sword is totally repaired there's no orb in the floor that I can use safely in the item that I want to repair (holding it, obviously).
