I was just about to look at the new nether and I built a big portal just because, after i lit the portal pigmen started coming out like crazy. I also tested it with the small portal but nothing came out, it also appears that the harder the difficulty the faster they spawn.
I am unable to recreat the bug so it might just be something with my world.
