Lever Breaks When Used On Piston

I was doing redstone, and tried to place a lever on the back of a piston. It placed, but when I turned it on and back off, the lever broke. When I place the lever on the side of the piston, it breaks instantly. I do not have any modifications (mods, resource packs, texture packs, ect.) I use a source launcher called MultiMC to run Minecraft, but the logs do not show anything abnormal.
