Named hoglins despawn. You can recreate this by naming a hoglin and then moving away from it and coming back.

I was not very far. The chunks should not have even unloaded.

Were there any piglins nearby that might have attacked the hoglin?

No, there were no Piglins around, the hoglins were in a fenced area, and it happened multiple times. I was in creative.
