TNT damage is transmitted through blast proof blocks

I make a 3 by 3 by 3 cube of obsidian, but it's hollow, and put a tnt inside and cover it. All sides and corners and edges of the tnt is covered by obsidian, yet there is a non griefing but still damaging explosion through the obsidian and I take damage from the outside even though the tnt is completely encapsulated.
