What I expected to happen was...:
I placed 8 pieces of paper and a already loaded map into a crafting table. (map in center, paper surrounding it) to create a zoomed-out version of the input map. I wanted a map 2x zoomed out so i did it twice. But the second time i put the 1:2 map in then it crashed.
What actually happened was...:
Instead, of a zoomed-out version of the input map I got a map named "unknown map" and when I tried to load it, (right clicking) Minecraft crashed.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Get a map or craft one using paper and and compass
2. Place 8 pieces of paper surrounding a map into a crafting table
3. Then place that map of scale 1:2 into a crafting table with paper surrounding it then craft it.
4. It may say "unknown map"
5. Right click it to load.

I DO NOT have a mod. The format is txt because when I opened the report on my Mac it opened in text edit.
You say that, but see attached screenshots. Map scaled at 1:8 working just fine.
Well maybe it was just a One time thing. I tried again and it did not happen.
