Three bee nests relocated under ideal conditions; no bees remained inside when placed

Note: This is actually on 20w20b.

I went to harvest bee nests at night and while it was raining.  I was using an iron silk touch axe (Eff 5, Unb 3, ST) and was able to harvest three nests.

No bees were visible around any of the nests when harvested; although it was night and raining when I harvested all three.  All nests were full of honey prior to being harvested.

I saved my game and returned to it later.  Meanwhile, the bee nests were in a chest in my base.

Later, I placed the bee nests above upward-facing dispensers.  The nests were still full of honey.  The new location of the nests is a glass and stone enclosure with dirt and flowers.  I activated the dispensers using glass bottles and was able to retrieve a bottle of honey from each nest.

Now, a few in-game days have passed and no bees have emerged from any of the three nests.  Could this be:

  • because I saved my game prior to placement?

  • because I left the bee nests in the chest too long?

  • due to my mod loader?  I'm using fabric-loader-0.8.3+build.196-20w20b.  This is a single-player local game (Integrated server).

What I expected to happen

Bees should have been in the nest at night when raining, and should have re-emerged after placement in the new location.

Update: I went out on another (in-game) night and harvested three more bee nests.  This time some bees did remain in the nests, and one of the nests apparently had 3 bees, because I got the total bee-location achievement.  When I placed the nests in my apiary, some bees did re-emerge.  Bees emerged in my apiary both before and after I used the glass bottle dispenser to harvest the honey (which came back with the new nests).

I did change the apiary slightly prior to placing the new nests, to ensure that there were dirt and flowers within 2 blocks of each nest location (which was not the case on the first round of nest placements).

So, what is different that may have caused bees to relocate the second time but not the first?

  • It was not raining when I harvested the nests

  • Different iron silk touch axe that had no Efficiency enchantment (only Unb 3, ST)

  • Apiary flowers were planted next to the new bee nest locations

  • I did not same the game nor place the bee nests in chests prior to placing them in the apiary

I think we can rule out these possible causes:

  • Mod loader

  • Placement on / use of dispensers (unless the loss of bees is gradual)

  • Unknown game environment issue

So, I'm happy to have bees now, but I still think there may be a defect to be found.

Is there any block in front of the bee nest's entrance / front face?

If not, please attach a screenshot. Also make sure that the issue happens without any mods whatsoever.

Added a screenshot showing the nest placement.  One difference between the current and original (problematic) state is that I added the peonies and dirt next to all of the nest locations.
