My pickaxe broke, so I switched to my backup. But when I closed my inventory, the broken pickaxe dropped as an item. It breaks a few more blocks then breaks again. Repeats.

Update: every time the pickaxe breaks than reappears, it has less durability each time. After a few times, it doesn't reappear.
