I tried to create a new profile with the new launcher:
Profile Name: 1.5.2
Game Directory: C:\Program Files\Minecraft\Minecraft\profiles\1.5.2
Use version: 1.5.2 release
JVM Arguments: -Xmx1G
At status it said: Will be updated, although the Game Directory was empty!
When I started the Game it crashed:
Minecraft and Launcher log: see crash.txt
Afterwards i checked the Game Directory again but no files or folders were created!

Minecraft doesn't have write access to {{C:\Program Files}}
Change your game directory to somewhere else like {{C:\Users\Dominik\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft}}
