You can break some blocks in adventure mode

Some blocks that you can destroy with your fist can be broken while in adventure mode. (I.E. Glass, Ice, Glowstone, Plants, Paintings, Item Frames, Snow Layer, Lily Pads, Vines, Tall Grass,) This destroys the ability to make vanilla spawn protection.
