Overpowered Creeper Instant Explosion

Yesterday i died in a hardcore world with a month worth of playtime, i died in a ravine where a creeper fell from the sky and instantly exploded. I had my shield out but as i said it instantly exploded so i couldn't do anything, i know it isnt really a bug as that is how the game works but also in my mob farm in said world i almost died 5 times due to this issue, and ended up dying to this issue, but it is incredibly overpowered as the only way to combat it is with a totem of undying but early game hardcore players dont come across those easily. I was with full diamond non enchanted armor when in died so i was well prepared to go into the ravine. Please nerf this, patch this or whatever you need to do because i have seen multiple complains online about this.
