The bug
Passive mobs like to go towards fence gates. You see, they seek freedom from their pens, and think that a closed fence gate is an exit, when really, it's not. Their pathfinding tells them that they want to go somewhere out side their pen, but there's a fence in the way. So what do they do? Go towards their fence gate, and then stop there because it's closed.

Can you provide a video of this happening. If the video is to big upload it on YouTube as unlisted then post the link. Also a screenshot with the debug screen (F3) would be helpful. Also don't refer to the wiki. The wiki is not a valid source of information since it is updated by fans.
Yes I do notice that but that maybe a one time thing. If you could provide the information above it would be helpful to be able to confirm.

Could not reproduce with 2 mins of testing (attached video)
They do tend to crowd at corners with no observable direction bias though, which is probably trivial.
Confirmed since 0.24 Survival Test
