If you run the demo of java minecraft through an emulator it resets the timer every time you log out and back in. It thinks you are a new player so you go back to spawn and lose your stuff but you are in the same world. I think it is because it cant save cache files but I am not sure. I was using a window emulator for linux ubuntu called wine.
