When i'm far away from rivers i notice there is fish and squids just swimming in place and whenever i get close they start moving again? What is this? Does anybody else have this issue?

I am not very knowledgeable about mob mechanics, but I believe that the reason that the fish and squids are not moving is because mob's path-finding stops after you get about 32 blocks away, causing them to stop moving. Hope this explains it!
