Launcher won't install any of the updates

I recently tried to play minecraft with some friends and when i loaded up the launcher i couldn't find or update it to 1.16.2 and so i decided to unistall it and reinstall it and when i loaded it back up i couldn't access any of the updates and i wasn't able to actually play it because it would come up with a error syaing "sorry, unable to start minecraft, please check your configuration". 

I would love to hear back soon as this bug prevents me from playing minecraft which is very disappointing.
