Whilst making a brand new anvil on hardcore I placed the anvil down. At the same time a villager walked over the block where i was placing it. The anvil did not place down and vanished. It didn't spawn back in the hand after waiting. Item simply doesn't exist anymore.

If this happens you just right-click in any block(Or the same) and the anvil will magically be placed.
