I am playing Minecraft java edition on my laptop and while I can play all versions up 1.12.2 without much issues, anything more recent will load through and then just give me an error code 0 message, it is the newest launcher (I reinstalled it today) from the Minecraft website.

This was exactly my experience on a 32-bit computer. It's either a library incompatibility or just that Minecraft doesn't support the 32-bit architecture anymore past version 1.12.2.
Either upgrade to a 64-bit OS / computer, or re-install Minecraft in 64-bit mode if that's possible.
