why can't you make amethyst crystals from amethyst blocks in minecraft, but you can make amethyst blocks from amethyst crystals?

thats like you cant break up netherwarts, netherack bricks etc. its like a logical thing you can smelt an iron block again and make nuggets but you when you carve and hammer those crystals in shape its a one time thing.
