I dropped my netherite sword and it disappeared

What I expected to happen was...:

I went to go mining for netherite and I dropped my netherite sword and I expected to just pick  it back up
What actually happened was...:
It disappeared I mined the floor out checked all the nearby piglins to see if they had it but it had just disappeared 

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go through a nether portal 
2. Drop your item in a 4x3 area while still in the nether portal
3. And done it should disappear as my item did
