Problems with Minecraft Launcher

I recently purchased Minecraft Java for Windows not too long ago. The program has been running perfectly, up until today. Every time I opened up the Minecraft Launcher, I was shown a grey screen that would not load any information. No matter how long I kept this window open, the result was always the same. I restarted my computer several times and even uninstalled and reinstalled the program. I have java installed onto my pc and still it isn't working. I'm just really disappointed because I've been wanting to play this game for a long time and now I'm unable to because of technical issues that I can't do much about.
