Help! Minecraft stuck in sky once loading world

While playing in the world the game screen froze. Upon restarting my Mac and launching the world the land would not load. It only loads the sky with no items being carried. So, my Minecraft is now stuck in a view looking at the sky. If I move the mouse around, it only spins minimally while locked looking straight up at the sky. When I even try to close out of the java screen it stays on my computer screen as a black box. I even tried updating my Java version to the latest version.
