When I use my trident with riptide, most of the time it simply throws me in the direction I'm looking without using durability, dealing damage or displaying the animation and sounds. The no durability part is not because it also has unbreaking III as I got one without and it still did this.
It does sometimes work properly as intended but only after repeatedly trying to do it.
This issue could very well be to do with the server I'm playing on as it usually runs at about 5-8 tps (we're trying to fix it), or one of the plugins it has, as in singleplayer it works flawlessly.

Your game, launcher or server is modified.
If you can reproduce the issue in a vanilla environment, please recreate the issue.
Any non-standard client/server/launcher build needs to be taken up with the appropriate team, not Mojang.
Any plugin issues need to be addressed to the creator of the plugin or resource pack.
If you have problems on large servers, such as The Hive and Hypixel, please contact them first as they run modified server software.
