Piglin Brutes being unforgiving

So, I have the mob forgiveness setting on, which is when you die, the mob that killed you will forgive you. I died to a hoglin in a bastion, so I set out to reclaim my items, when I got there with a golden helmet and leggings, I was killed by a Piglin Brute trying to get to another Hoglin behind me. When I returned again, the Piglin Brutes just kept killing me, even when I had full gold armor, I didn't even punch or hit them at all. Also, for some reason it was only the Piglin Brutes that were attacking me, and not the Piglins, even though I was surrounded by mostly Piglins. I kept trying to get my items back until, sadly, they despawned. In my opinion this is a big issue because it makes trying to enter a bastion peacefully extremely hard.
