What is wrong with that death message? This sounds more like a feature request than a bug.

@unknown because the guardian's laser beam is not a melee attack, thus it is a bug.

I can confirm however, this seems like a feature request and is probably intended although that is not my decision to make. Also affects 1.17.1.

Can confirm in 1.18.1.

After consideration, the issue is being closed as Working as Intended.

Please note, that mechanics of the game may change between updates.
Things such as graphics, sounds, world creation, biomes, redstone, villagers, and animals may not work the same in current versions.
