[MC-227853] 1.17 crash when letters are highlighted

When text is highlighted minecraft 1.17 crashes. Im on linux debian 64 bits chromebook with the Linux support. Sorry for lag in the video i cant find a good screen recorder but the bug is only in 1.17 and all the 1.17 snapshots.

Highlighting text using Shift + Arrow Keys on Windows 10 21H1 doesn't appear to cause a crash. Maybe it's a thing with Ubuntu.

Even though linux is supported, the hardware chromebooks use is not. link
Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done on the bug tracker. Perhaps a chromebook forum could offer a solution to your issue.

I have a chromebook thats powerfull enough to run minecraft i have 60 fps in 1.16.5 minecraft

I can't reproduce this issue in a non-Chrome OS VirGL VM (NixOS 21.05 host, Ubuntu 20.04 guest), despite that in theory being a nearly identical configuration. Either there's a more complex cause here (possibly an interaction between the host and guest GPU drivers?) or this is a Chrome OS bug.

Even though you might be able to run MC on a Chromebook if you tinker around a bit, but it's not something supported by Mojang at all. In fact, it's explicitly unsupported.
