You can sink through lava when you pause the game.

While I was in the Nether, I fell into the lava, but when I paused, I was sinking through the lava for NO REASON. I also don’t know if you can move on flowing lava while pausing.

Note that I was in creative mode.

Just swim on lava and pause the game.
