Client-side lag spike while growing a tree using bone meal with Chunk Builder set to "Fully Blocking"

The bug

Using bone meal on saplings to grow a tree causes a big lag spike. This is most notable with 2x2 trees such as spruce and dark oak.

As of 1.18 Pre-release 5, this is only noticeable with "Chunk Builder" settings set to Fully Blocking.

To reproduce

1. Open the debug screen with Alt + F3.
2. Plant some saplings.
3. Bone meal the saplings until the tree grows.
4. ❌ A client-side lag spike occurs.

This could have something to do with MC-123584.

This doesn't seem like a purely client-side issue; the lag spike occurs globally for all players across a server.

Furthermore, the lag spike appears present even when the tree grows naturally without bonemeal.

Well it has been confirmed by a moderator.

This issue is about the client-side lag spike. If this also happens server-side on multiplayer, then probably a new ticket should be opened for that.

There's a good chance the client lag spike is being hidden from me due to a large disparity in system specs. I was searching for a bug behind the issue in HC and thought this was it, but you're right. Your original videos only show a client side spike. The other issue is likely datapack or mod related. Sorry to bother. 🙂 I'm going to delete my original comments.

I am unable to reproduce, can you confirm that are you still able to reproduce this issue on the newest version?

I'm not able to reproduce this issue in 1.21.3 either.
