When you place a pressure plate on a trapdoor the pressure plate breaks instantly.

This might actually be a regression of MC-117118; now it is possible to place buttons and levers on trapdoors again, which behave the same way.

Please note, that mechanics of the game may change between updates.
Things such as graphics, sounds, world creation, biomes, redstone, villagers, and animals may not work the same in current versions.

I fail to see the issue here. The pressure plate is activating the trapdoor and when this happens the pressure plate drops as an item due to it losing support.
