[MC-233349] Fence gate disappears when placed where a mob is walking

I placed a fence gate by two adjacent fences while my cat walked through the gap, causing the gate to disappear, and the two adjacent fences to look like they are attached to something. There is no hitbox, and mobs can walk through the gap. I was able to repeat it again when I placed a fence gate down on the same block my cat was on as it walked toward me. It does not work when mobs are stationary.

I did right click it, but nothing happened. There wasn't a block there, even though I had placed one.
