The Bug
"Middle Click Dragging" with an item stack in creative mode should duplicate a stack to an inventory slot being click dragged into. However, this only works if and only if the "Pick Block" key bind is set to "Middle Click". If it is set to any other key, say the key "V", neither middle clicking and dragging or pressing "V" and dragging duplicates the stack.
How to reproduce
Set the "Pick Block" key bind to something else than middle click, example: the "V" key
In creative mode, hold the "V" key with an item stack and click drag into another inventory slot.
Hold "Middle Click" and drag into another inventory slot.
Hold the "V" key, "Middle Click" and drag into another inventory slot.
β Notice that neither of the steps 2-4 produces the expected behavior of duplicating the stack into the slot, whereas only when "Pick Block" is set to "Middle Click" this behavior works as expected.

@unknown I don't think this is the issue the reporter is describing. I think they're trying to say that the clicking and dragging action is hardcoded to the middle mouse button instead of being tied to the "Pick Block" key bind.
Pretty sure that MC-46584 is a completely different bug
Actually duplicate of MC-141942
@tryashtar That's an unrelated bug. MC-141942 explains specifically interactions in the search menu, while this bug explains the drag duplication of items in any menu while in creative mode. The common thread might seem to be the re-binding of the "pick block" key, but the behavior isn't related. Fixing MC-141942Β wont fix this bug, and vice versa.
This report is incorrectly marked as duplicate of MC-141942.
Whilst both bugs involve the "Pick Block" keybinding, they are separate issues.
This bug prevents duplicating items in creative by pick blocking and dragging when the pick block key is not bound to middle click.
MC-141942 prevents the "Pick Block" from taking a stack of the item from the creative search menu, which is not the same issue as stated in this report.
Additionally, this bug still exists in the latest version of Minecraft (1.20.2).
Thank you for your report!
