Hi, I might found a bug on 1.18 pre 4 regards squid spawn.
So I did a Squid farm in a river biome, drained all rivers/beaches/oceans/lush caves near me 128+ blocks.
I've did a big "pool" in my river biome to see if any squid spawns. no squid spawned for more than 1h there.
I searched with spectator any squid near me even tried to kill @e type, and no entity.
Then i went to single player to see what's happening. I used fill commands to dig a very big hole in 2 different biomes (river, ocean) and drained all water near me.
No squid spawned in the box that i created nor in river, ocean.
But when I fly with creative random in rivers that are not that "spacious" as my 2 holes that i dug with fill commands, they spawn.
This is very weird, I don't know exactly what is this.
Thank you,
zaSami

Hi!
I've did the farm starting from 44 to 63
I've attached some screenshots down below.
I cannot provide a world download because it's multiplayer.
[media]Hi zaSami. You said that your farm is build between y 44 and y 63. From 21w40a, the squid spawn only from y 50 and y 63. Also, I understand this map is SMP map, but try recreating this farm in singleplayer, on pre release 4, and then see if you have problem after upgrading the map to the curent pre release. Squid still spawn in rivers on the latest pre release, so the problem maybe is that you build the farm wrong. Check what the biome is there. BTW, the farm is shulkercraft 1.16 squid farm, but I dont think this is the problem 🙂
Hi @Ilie Crisitan,
As you said from 21w40a squid only spawns from 50-63, but as I said my farm is from 44-64 so basically it covers the new spawn requirements.
Yes @Dicu Samuel. I say to rebuild the farm, or send to a mod/helper your livestreams to see if something is wrong
Hi zaSami, I came across the same problem on my server, I'm using PaperMC-1.18-52. And I tested on a vanilla 1.18 single player map, it still does not work. I had been using this farm since 1.17.1, and it worked really well. I built it from exactly y=50 to y=64 in a river biome. Had you figured out what's the cause is?
[media]Oh and, what's a little bit different in my case is that, I have some squids spawn in a river just next to the farm, but is far fewer than what it used to have. I have an assumption that now the spawn condition of squid may require the water to be exposed in air? Otherwise I can't figure out another reasonable explanation.
apparently, in 1.18, squids must have 3 blocks high to spawn, unlike 1.17 or 1.16 where only 2 blocks were needed to spawn. I made a youtube video to show this and a solution for this farm btw
At what height did you build the squid farm? Could you provide some screenshots? A world download would be helpful too.
