I press play to play 1.18 but it crashes every time saying there is an unknown error. I have talked to a support member but they were not able to help. They said that it sounded like a bug. I hope there is something to fix this because I really want to play 1.18.

Same exact problem. Running Win 8.1 and Java. It ran perfectly well at 1.17 but with todays update to 1.18 it instantly crashes at 100% of any loaded world both old and new. Worked with some 'expert" and re-downloaded launcher multiple times to no avail. Re-downloaded launcher for 7/8 several times and each time once I choose my world to play when it reaches 100% it crashes and it goes back to launcher.
We do not have enough information to find the cause of this issue.
