Unbalanced Biome Distribution & Sizing

I've attached multiple biome maps for 1.18 using ChunkBase, and a 1.17 biome map (same seed) using Amidst.

Biomes aren't as evenly distributed as they were in 1.17, nor are they evenly sized.

As you can see in the 1.17 screenshot, most biomes were fairly similar in size, and they were fairly evenly distributed. But in the 1.18 screenshots, the snow/ice biomes are WAY bigger and more frequent than the desert/savannah/mesa biomes. We can also see that the various forest and plains biomes VASTLY outweigh the other biomes. Sure, they were more common in 1.17 too, but in 1.17 they were about 60% of the biome whereas in 1.18 they're more like 85% (excluding oceans and rivers). Finally, jungles are rarely more than 2-3 regions in size, and swamps are sized okay but are around 2 or 3 times less common than they were in 1.17.

This huge uneven biome balance leads to players wandering for hours in survival worlds just to get out of the basic forest/plains and into something else like a desert or jungle. Sure, some biomes used to be more rare, but it's been put to the extreme. Plus deserts weren't really part of the "rare biomes" group, but they are now, and they're rarely alone (often taken over by mesas). Biomes used to be more balanced in terms of size and rarity, so single 8x8 region area would have all or most biomes, but now that same area could be 80% snow, and 20% forest, alone.
