If you have a village / villager trading hall, or similar, and the villagers spawn a cat, this cat can spawn in so many weird places, and inside other blocks.
Examples of where they can spawn:
Inside halfslabs with another block on top.
Inside hoppers.
Inside chests.
Inside stairs.
Basically anything that isn't a full block. All it seems to need, is a regular spawnable block underneath it.

I have also have had 2 experiences of a cat spawning inside of a full block next to a path block and each time they suffocated to death.
