I tried to place a village at a meadow biome using the new /place command but some generation problems accrued. For example some structures generated mostly over the air or the path blocks generated over the trees etc.

Well actually the origin where I placed the village was a flat area but the village ended up bigger and reaching some trees. Also I'm pretty sure I've saw some villages generating next to forests and trees but no such issue.
The issue with village paths being able to replace leaves is a valid bug and is being tracked at MC-187131.
It looks like the terrain adaptation is not working. The issue with it generating over trees is likely intended. During worldgen the trees don't exist there when structures are placed.
