I noticed that allays holding an item can sometimes break a lead when they are tethered to a fence post.
Steps to reproduce:
Give an allay an item
Attach it to a lead then tether it to a fence post
Move away from the allay to a distance beyond the maximum lead extension
The allay will occasionally break the lead and move to the player
I can try to provide a video of this happening if it would be helpful, but I found it pretty easy to reproduce consistently. Thank you all!

@CometAurora Interesting. I had thought it was the pathfinding causing them to break the leads, but from your experience it looks like it might just be that they move too fast and erratically to be kept tethered with a leash.

The interesting thing is that, for me, the lead hasn't "broken" in the sense that... it's still attached to the fence post and the item isn't floating on the ground. However, the allay is no longer attached.
[media]@sepiapages The same thing happens on my end as well. The lead item drops, but texturally it's still wrapped around the fence post. However, I didn't include that in the bug description because I believe that issue is covered by MC-96347. However, that is also an annoying factor.

Mine don't break when they try to follow. The issue is when I reload the area in some way. Most often by nether portal or just opening the world to play. The lead will break and lay on the ground and ill find an allay suddenly in front of me. I'm about to put them in a box because this is actually getting really annoying. I tether them to keep them out of the way while I'm doing things other than resource gathering, which is what I use them for, amd its incredibly difficult to get them back on the lead with the mobile interface. I took a screenshot of what this looks like for me. The Allay holding a stick should be tethered to the dark oak fence post, but isn't, the lead is on the ground a little distance away, and the fence still shows a lead attached.
[media]Just want to add I came across this issue yesterday in 1.20. it’s my first time having allays and they both just broke the leads when i went away, and i couldn’t even retrieve the leads. it looked like one of them was still attached to the fence post but when i clicked on it it just disappeared.
Replicated in 1.20.2
Please see attached a duplication video: I duplicate the issue three times in a row on a private survival multiplayer server.

I wanted to add the following notes:
Replication appears to require (or is made easier by) multiple allays attached to the same fence post. In my case, I need three attached before the issue begins to appear.
Replication appears to require (or is made easier by) some type of terrain collision/interference. I have allays attached to other fence posts in other parts of the world, and have never seen this issue duplicated elsewhere.

In 1.20.4.
I'm no longer able to reproduce this bug in 1.21.1. Is anyone else still able to reproduce this behavior, or was it sneakily patched somewhere between 1.20.4 and 1.21.1?
Can confirm this still happening in 1.21.3. I just got a couple allays for the first time and this is happening constantly. When they detach like this it seems to leave these temporary visual bugs with one half of the lead still attached to the fence they were attached to. Has happened both with relogging/reloading as well as when I start to get too far away. Makes me not want to use them because they can be quite annoying while you are working on things.

this is happening to me in 1.21.1. and when my allays break the lead, the knot texture stays on the fence post until I punch it. super annoying, I ended up having to keep em in an enclosure instead
My allays constantly break off leads attached to fences even if they are not holding an item, making them quite annoying to keep in one place.
