Spore Blossom held oddly

The spore blossom, when held in your hand does display it as if you were about to place it down, but the top part that's normally connected to the bottom of a block is shown, despite it normally being obscured by the block it is placed on in most scenarios. I'm sure it's probably intended, but it still feels a tad strange to see the otherwise hidden moss-like top of the spore blossom when held in my hand, and I would like a bit of explanation why it's held like this.
