Magma Cubes Keep Spawning

I found a Magma Cube Spawner in a bastion, wanting to make a Magma Cream farm later I decided to deactivate it by covering the spawner in torches and replacing the top layer of lava with Cobblestone, after doing so I was surprised to find the for some bizarre reason, Magma Cubes were still spawning, so I incased the spawner in a solid cube of Cobblestone Blocks with torches on the center block on each side, and then covering the surrounding area in cobblestone slabs with the exception of the surrounding paths and the island with the treasure. What left me baffled is that Magma Cubes still spawned outside the cobblestone cube. What makes this even stranger is that all the other spawners I have encountered have not done this and have deactivated merely by placing torches on the sides.

Even though i'm not a mod, i'll still respond to this.

To credit the Minecraft Wiki: Magma cubes spawn in areas of the Nether at all light levels.

Assuming this accounts for spawners, i'd say that is the solution. But please wait for a mod to respond, as I may not be correct about this.

Thanks for that info, sorry the sources I searched all said I could deactivate it by surrounding it in torches or surrounding it in solid blocks. But I'm still not sure why they could spawn after surrounding the cube in cobblestone.

You may be able to block the spawn area with a 10x4x10 cube. I'm less certain because they're so big.

Yeah, spawners have a fairly large spawning range, so just those few cobblestone blocks won't help. Additionally, nether mobs like blazes and magma cubes have different spawning requirements when it comes to light levels, meaning that it's not as easy (or even impossible, in the case of magma cubes) to disable those spawners using torches only.
