Player Motion nbt not functioning correctly

So I was trying to detect when the player was moving by using the motion nbt data, but when i tried to read it, it only gave me a output of 0.0d, -0.07....d, 0.0d which is the idle motion. Now i was trying it out on different mobs and there motion worked perfectly fine rising the X and Z as they start walking. The players X and Z motion on the other hand only started rising when sprint jumping and only while in the air.
