So I was trying to make something with command blocks, but when I put in the command to place the door (fill 37 70 -19 37 70 -19 minecraft:oak_door) and when I activated the command block, only the bottom half of the door showed up, but when I put a block where the upper half should have been, the door broke.

Doors, beds and tall plants are made of multiple blocks, not 1 block. You have half=lower and half=upper block states to define which part it is.
You only placed 1 half, which verifies if it can still exist if a nearby block is changed.
Not a bug.
