Vanilla - Prison server. I was mindlessly mining in the S-mine in the prison server. I noticed when I looked back at the screen, I was lagging as the blocks around me were not breaking so I decided to relog expecting to return to normal and continue the grind. Upon return, my pickaxe was missing. Note I had toggled locked the pick into the first slot in the hotbar.
What I expected to happen was...:
Return into S-mine and continue as normal.
What actually happened was...:
Returned to S-mine and my pick with approximately 900k blocks broken and several dozen upgrades invested into it went missing.
Steps to Reproduce:
N/A, unsure on how to reproduce lag in this instance.

Idk if you can restore previous saves or something similar to that to view the state of my pick around 11:00 pm PST on 07/28/22.

Your game, launcher or server is modified.
If you can reproduce the issue in a vanilla environment, please recreate the issue.
Any non-standard client/server/launcher build needs to be taken up with the appropriate team, not Mojang.
Any plugin issues need to be addressed to the creator of the plugin or resource pack.
If you have problems on large servers, such as The Hive and Hypixel, please contact them first as they run modified server software.
