1) Start Minecraft
2) Join server or enter singleplayer world
3) Open chat and try to type £
4) Nothing happens

How to type £
Windows:
Alt + 0163 (on numpad with Num Lock on)
Alt + + (numpad) a 3
Mac:
⌥ Option + 3
Linux:
Control-Shift(hold down) then u a 3
