Placing a block adjacent to a fence while inside hit box of the block allows placement causing suffocation

What I thought would happen: Block wouldn't be place due to insufficient space (obstruction due to player hit box being in the way)

What happened: Block was placed causing suffocation.

Steps to recreate: place a fence post, stand as close to fence post as possible, attempt to place block on top of fence.
