Chiseled Bookshelves cannot be moved by pistons

While trying out the new chiseled bookshelfes I found a critical oversight with them. They aren´t moveable! This bug only affects the Java version of the game and totally breaks the option for hidden passageways in big library builds. This also goes against the promised features of Minecraft Live!

Notice the bookshelves in the middle, https://youtu.be/yZRXmHiEh7U?t=965.

Chiseled bookshelves are block entities. They cannot be moved in Java Edition for now, much like dispensers and sculk sensors.

I think this should be reopened as referring to a technical restriction doesn't make sense here, removing technical limitations is part of the day to day work of the minecraft developers.
Minecraft live showed that hidden passageways with movable bookshelves are intended, the footage showing the old bookshelves is the workaround for now. The fact that the new bookshelves are not movable in the first snapshot shows that the developers did not allocate time to fix it yet, it does not mean that immovable bookshelves are "working as intended". Minecraft Live clearly showed that the bookshelves are planned to be movable.

This ticket is also not a duplicate of the ticket regarding all block entities, which is a completely different design decision.

I fail to see how this is distinct from MC-164; that ticket holds examples of several block entities that cannot be moved by pistons (MC-224530, MC-255064). But I have reopened this regardless so that a Mojang employee can take the final decision.

I've re-closed this Chiseled Bookshelves are Block Entities which MC-164 covers for all past and future block entities

Then  MC-164 should be reopened as this was promised in Minecraft Live. After the 1.19 debacle they clearly stated, that this time MC Live promises will be treated as commitments. As 2No2Name stated this is clearly a separate issue, due to recent commitments.

Chiseled bookshelves being movable by pistons was neither show nor mentioned, thus not promised.

Im citing the MC Live conversation about bookshelfs: "I want to make an escape room. Oh actually I want someone in the community to do that and then play it."

I was hyped to start working on such an escape room map. BUT the core gameplay mechanic for this DOES NOT WORK! How am I suposed to hide passage ways within walls of chisseled bookshelfs if they arent moveable? Yes I could use diffrent blocks but at this point I could also just place signs which point at my "hidden" passage. What is the point of even mentioning this, if chiseled bookshelfs arent moveable? I could also create an escape room with diamond blocks, but this would just be ugly.

In conclousion this must be a bug, or Mojang would backtrack on promises again and I beliefe in their commitment.

That part does not mention THEM being movable, only that Mojang wishes them to be used in an escape room, not necessarily as the exit. An escape room also isn't the same as a hidden exit; just puzzles to get out of the room.

I suggest further discussion to be moved to either the mojira reddit, or the mojira discord.

Hey folks, we will keep this bug closed as a dupe of MC-164. As you may imagine, this is no small task. If and when we take on this work, we will not track it as a bug. Instead, we will track it as a (tech) feature request.
