When you put a dispenser in front of TNT with nothing in it while in creative it will set the TNT off I know this might be a feature but I never heard anything about it. Just letting you know! Oh and you do need to send a redstone pulse to the dispencer.

Intended. You are powering the TNT through the dispenser. Replacing the dispenser with any other solid block will cause the same problem.
Probably as repeaters send signals through blocks, you have placed a repeater next to the dispenser and it is the pulse that is setting the TNT off.
