Boat with chest disappeared

Was travelling in a boat with chest for the first time, fully loaded chest to move to a new base. I reached my destination, disembarked, harvested a couple of pieces of wheat, and the boat with chest had disappeared completely. No trace of it, or of the items which were in the chest. Tried restarting the game, but no effect.
